The mega hit Demon Slayer was recently brought up . . . by the current Japanese prime minister during budget committee.
According to Japanese site grape, working on reports from Asahi Shimbun, Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan member Kenji Eda was talking with newly appointed Prime Minster Yoshihide Suga about how they were political opponents even though they have a background together.
Prime Minster Suga responded to this with a Demon Slayer reference: “Since I am dealing with you, Mr. Eda, I will use ‘total concentration breathing’ in delivering my response.”
Afterward, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato told reporters, “I know that this ‘total concentration breathing’ is a breathing method used in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba but I don’t know if the Prime Minister himself has read the manga.”
This is not the first time a Japanese prime minister has shown his knowledge of his country’s pop culture, though. Former Prime Minster Abe Shinzo once dressed up as Mario for the Olympics.
