If you didn’t think Science SARU was busy enough already, maybe the latest anime announcement will tip the scales. The studio has been revealed as the production house behind the Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia anime, which adapts the award-winning historical manga by Tomato Soup.

Details are light, but you can see a teaser trailer below.

Here’s what Tomato Soup had to say about the news, followed by the author’s celebratory illustration featuring Sitara (Fatima) and Töregene:

“Over 10 years ago, long before I began drawing A Witch’s Life in Mongol, I was fascinated by the history of the Mongolian Empire. I often thought, ‘I wish there were an anime like this.’ That thought led me to daydream: If such an anime existed, what kind of characters would appear? What sort of story would unfold?”

Tomato Soup’s A Witch’s Life in Mongol manga is currently running in AKITA SHOTEN’s Souffle. Yen Press licensed the series in English, with the first volume set to drop on May 27. Here’s the official description:

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia is a court drama set in 13th-century Mongolia. It follows Sitara (Fatima), a former slave girl captured by the Mongolian Empire, who meets Töregene , the 6th wife of the Mongolian Emperor—who also harbors complicated feelings toward the Empire. Together, they begin to disrupt the very foundation of the empire.
