girls band cry

Toei Animation’s Girls Band Cry anime premiered back in April, but it wasn’t until this week that we finally learned of English release plans. Toei Animation hopped on its official X (formerly Twitter) account to reveal a North American debut for August 13, 2024.

When the series arrives, it will be available digitally via select outlets, including Fandango at Home, Microsoft, Amazon Prime Video and Hoopla. Check out a new English-subtitled preview while we wait for the girls to kick off their performance.

Girls Band Cry English Trailer

The Girls Band Cry anime is directed by Kazuo Sakai (Love Live! Sunshine!!) with Jukki Hanada working on series composition, Nari Teshima on character designs, Mari Kondo and Jae Hoon Jung as CGI directors and Kenji Tamai composing music for the Toei Animation production.

The Girls Band Cry story is described as such:

Girls Band Cry Plot

The main character drops out of high school in her second year, and aims at entering a university while working alone in Tokyo.

A girl is betrayed by her friends and doesn’t know what to do.

Another girl is abandoned by her parents, and tries to survive in the city by doing part-time jobs.

This world lets us down all the time.

Nothing goes as planned.

But we want something that we can continue to like.

We believe there’s a place where we belong. That’s why we sing.
