Next Season’s Fantasy Anime Are Waiting for You in Print

Don't sleep on these upcoming fantasy anime - read their light novels!

Several brand new fantasy anime will be coming our way in the spring 2025 season. If you’re a fantasy fan, waiting can be hard. But the good news is, you don’t have to wait… at least for some! Many of these titles, as is often the case in recent years, started as light novels. And many of those light novels are easy to obtain and read via a smartphone app!

Check out these three ongoing series in their original light novel form. Get caught up before the new season starts—and keep reading even after the season is over!

The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows

The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows

Lots of recent fantasy anime focus on unappreciated party members. The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows is another of these stories, this time focusing on the healer Zenos. After being kicked aside by his party, he decides to open his own underground clinic. This new trajectory works out well for him, with people finally sitting up and taking notice.

If that sounds like your kind of story, you can read the light novel now through J-Novel Club! The service, which uploads book translations in pieces prior to their print run, also localizes the manga adaptation. Five volumes of the light novel and two volumes of the manga are currently available on the service. And once you’re caught up, you can enjoy new installments on a regular basis!

The Beginning After the End

The Beginning After the End

The star of this upcoming fantasy anime was a king in a past life. Now he’s Arthur Leywin: son of an adventurer and wise beyond his years. This new world is full of magic, intelligent monsters, and dungeons to explore. And Arthur, who only knew war and solitude in his past life, will do everything in his power to protect his family and friends in this life.

Fans of light novels and webtoons can check out the English-language isekai adventure that inspired the upcoming anime. The original web novel version is more than 1,500 installments strong on Tapas, and its comic adaptation is also available on the service. The app uses a mix of “wait until free” and a currency called Ink to unlock chapters of its titles. Spending ink benefits the creators of the web novels and comics you purchase!

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman

At least in his own eyes, Beryl Gardenant is nothing special. He heads his family dojo out in the boonies, having turned out lots of successful students. But he’s in his 40s, and his dad has sent him to the big city to find a wife. What he finds is a job, prestige, and lots of eligible young ladies… most of whom are former students of his made good!

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman promises to be a unique fantasy anime, told from the point of view of a hero who doesn’t see himself as a hero. You can read about his adventures in his own words via the original light novel, available from J-Novel Club. The sixth volume is currently “streaming,” with new sections being released every week!
