Fans Snap Up Canceled Comiket Catalog to Support Event

Fans Snap Up Canceled Comiket Catalog to Support EventLast week Comiket, the world’s biggest gathering of otakudom, was canceled to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

But while Comic Market 98 won’t officially take place, thousands of fans will be getting their hands on its catalog.

The catalog was already scheduled for printing before Comiket was canceled, and the organizers have asked fans to buy a copy to support the event. The fans responded with true burning otaku passion, briefly causing it to become the best-selling book on amazon.co.jp. As of this writing, it’s at #12.

Currently on preorder, the catalog is expected to hit April 13.

Meanwhile, many of the doujinshi writers and artists who were expected to sell their goods at Comiket booths have moved sales online.

Details on Comiket 99, set to take place this winter, will be announced in the coming weeks and months.

Meanwhile, here’s our report on 2018’s winter Comiket!
