Several summer series are wrapping up, but the fall anime season has officially begun! Even with most shows starting in October, a few series have jumped to the front of the queue for your viewing pleasure. In some cases, you can get a not inconsiderable amount of the season under your belt as we speak.
So warm up your favorite streaming services and get ready to watch! Which one are you most excited about?
My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer
While this long-named fall anime offering doesn’t start airing in Japan ’til next week, Crunchyroll subscribers get it early! Based on the fantasy light novel by Mojikakiya, this series has a heartwarming beginning: Belgrieve, a retired adventurer, finds an abandoned baby in the forest. He raises the child, Angeline, as his own. When she turns 13, the time comes for her to go out in the world and become an adventurer. And boy, has she ever done that.
As the series begins, we find that Angeline is so good that she can’t hold on to her vacation time. Will she ever get home to see her dear old dad? Start watching and find out!
A Girl & Her Guard Dog
Hatsuharu’s shoujo manga A Girl & Her Guard Dog is already leading off the fall anime season. The new show follows Isaku, the granddaughter of a yakuza boss, as she attempts to live an ordinary high school life. Making that difficult is her bodyguard, Keiya. Despite being in his 20s, he’s masquerading as a fellow student to keep an eye on her.
While Isaku has a crush on Keiya, she’s aware that what she needs is a normal, age-appropriate crush. Will she have a chance to find it? Watch A Girl & Her Guard Dog to find out!
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
One of the most anticipated titles of the fall anime season, this atmospheric fantasy explores life, death, and the bonds we create while we still have the chance. Elf mage Frieren has outlived almost all of her legendary adventuring party. Decades later, she’s decided to find out what it’s like to take time to get to know people. With her former allies’ apprentices in tow, she starts a new journey of discovery.
If you’ve been looking forward to this one, great news: four episodes are already up on Crunchyroll! That’s plenty to watch before the rest of the season starts in earnest.
