Discotek is digging deep for its latest license, with the addition of the Ringing Bell (Chirin no Suzu) anime film. The distributor plans to release the 1978 feature on DVD sometime next year.
Sanrio Films’ dark children’s project—which adapts a story by Anpanman creator Takashi Yanase—features direction by Masami Hata (Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland). RCA/Columbia Home Video previously provided an English dubbed home video release for the film, which was one of Sanrio’s attempts to produce anime movies for an international audience.
Ringing Bell follows a baby lamb named Chirin who seeks revenge on a wolf who killed his mother. This leads him down a dark path as he ventures into the wilderness to face off against the Wolf King.
