Another Detective Conan movie is here, which means records are once again being broken. According to Japanese site Cinema Today, Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback sold 2,314,690 tickets in the first three days for a total of 3,438,626,700 yen (about US$24.15 million) to set a new record for the series.

The 28th film in the series now has the best opening weekend record out of all the Detective Conan films. It should be interesting to see how high it goes, because Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram ended up being Japan’s highest-grossing film for all of 2024 at 15.8 billion yen by the end of its run.

It’s also worth noting that One-Eyed Flashback has the widest release in the history of the series.

Katsuya Shigehara is at the helm in his Conan directorial debut after working as unit director on Black Iron Submarine in 2022. It’s written by Takeharu Sakurai, who has penned several Conan films, most recently 2021’s The Scarlet Bullet. It has a prominent role for Conan’s guardian/Ran’s dad/detective non-extraordinaire Kogoro Mōri. The film is set in Nagano Prefecture.
