Demon Slayer Has Made HOW MUCH From Merchandise?

We all know that Demon Slayer is doing crazy well, with the manga and its anime adaptation getting fans all over the world. But how much money has it made? The Japanese business news outlet Toyo Keizai crunched some numbers on Demon Slayer’s merchandise, and said in that area alone it’s brought in about 900 billion yen, or about $7.9 billion.

For more perspective, last year the manga earned 44 billion yen, or $385 million. That’s an increase from 2019, when the manga earned 10 billion yen, or US$87 million. Earlier this year it was announced that there were about 150 million copies of the manga out in circulation.

The success of the manga has also led to the series getting novels, and those have earned about 2.8 billion yen, or $25 million.

Then there’s the theme song “Gurenge,” performed by LiSA, which earned about 800 million yen (about $7 million) in 2019 and 2020.

In 2019, home releases for the TV anime brought in 800 million yen, or $7 million, followed by 500 million yen, or $4.4 million, the next year.

And then we get to the movie, which did better than all other movies internationally in 2020. It’s the first time a movie created outside of America has done this, and it made 51.5 billion yen, or $450 million. Out on home video, it’s earned 10 billion yen, or $88 million.

Besides all these things, there’s also Demon Slayer toys, Demon Slayer specialty foods, and Demon Slayer clothing. There are also many Demon Slayer knockoffs out there that are also selling, and Shueisha has made attempts to stop this from happening.

The manga by Koyoharu Gotouge made its debut back in 2016 and quickly took off. VIZ Media publishes the manga in America, and will be releasing the boxset next month.
