Hot on the heels of the news about AMC picking up Sentai Filmworks comes another surprising anime company acquisition. Cinedigm is looking to up its anime and Asian drama and film content with an agreement to acquire Digital Media Rights (DMR), the parent company that owns streaming services AsianCrush, Midnight Pulp, and classic anime streamer RetroCrush.
Other channels under the DMR umbrella include Cinehouse, Cocoro, KMTV, C-Crush, Cinehouse Romance, K-Crush, and QTTV.
In addition to increasing its content, Cinedigm aims to expand the advertising network of DMR while reducing operating costs and strengthening revenue growth through its Matchpoint platform. Cinedigm is also looking to migrate all of the DMR content to this platform at some point in the future.
The RetroCrush platform launched in March 2020 and is available as a free, ad-supported video-on-demand service in the United States and Canada. Among its streaming partners are the likes of Discotek Media, TMS, NHK, Studio Pierrot, AMG, Happinet, and RightStuf.
