Knuckles, a TV spinoff from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, has announced more members of its cast. Cary Elwes (who played the Baron and Donald Curtis in Studio Ghibli dubs), Christopher Lloyd, Stockard Channing, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel will all be lending their talents to the series. The reveal did not say who they will be playing.
Idris Elba, who plays Knuckles in the movies, will also be voicing him in the series, as well as working as an executive producer. Other actors confirmed to be in Knuckles include Adam Pally, Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Rory McCann and Tika Sumpter. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington and Toru Nakahara are all executive producers with Elba. John Whittington, Brian Schacter and James Madejski are listed as the series’ writers.
Paramount+, Paramount Pictures and Sega are all behind Knuckles. Deadline gave the series this description:
“The live-action series will follow Knuckles on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.”
The story will occur between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, though an official launch date has yet to be announced. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will come out at the end of the year.
Jeff Fowler, who directs the Sonic movies, is also involved in this series, and has directed the debut episode. Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone and Carol Banker have also all been hired to work as directors.
Paramount gave this description for the first Sonic film:
“The world needed a hero, we got a hedgehog. Powered with incredible speed, Sonic The Hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz), aka The Blue Blur, embraces his new home on Earth. That is, until he accidentally knocks out the power grid and sparks the attention of super-uncool evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Now it’s super-villain vs. super-sonic in an all-out race across the globe to stop Robotnik from using Sonic’s unique power for world domination. Sonic teams up with The Donut Lord, aka Sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), to save the planet in this live-action adventure comedy that’s fun for the whole family.”
