Forget Mario and Sonic and all those other prominent mascots out there. They’re far too consistent to wow me with their presence anymore, however fun their games may be. (In all seriousness, I’m dying to play Mario Galaxy 2.) No, I’ve been spending countless years longing for the return of one very special character: BONK. I want to flip in the air and land noggin-first once more, cracking the very earth with my oversized caveman dome.
It’s certainly taken Hudson long enough, but they’ll finally be reviving the TurboGrafx-16 property, unleashing hard-headed wrath on WiiWare, Playstation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade. I’m on the fence about the art style right now; the sparse 3D kind of makes it look like a low-rent Dreamcast game.
It would be very broken record of me to say that I’d prefer some hand-drawn graphics. Heck, I’m just glad to see this comeback finally happening, not counting the Japan-only remake of the original that hit Gamecube and PS2 a few years back. Check out the screen below, and hit the link for more. Bonk: Brink of Extinction hits the download circuit in Spring 2010.
