The Blue Exorcist anime continues with a new arc this October, but the manga is taking a break. Author Kazue Kato announced that the series will be going on hiatus starting with the October issue of Jump SQ. magazine, with a return penciled in for the December 2024 issue that hits stands in Japan on November 4, 2024.

According to Kato, she was diagnosed with an illness during a routine health check-up in March. She has been working on the manga and going to the hospital in the past few months, and also recently had a successful operation. As a result, she is taking some time to recover from both the illness and the operation.

While she did not reveal the specifics of the illness, Kato confirmed that it is not life-threatening to assuage any fears fans may have.

VIZ Media publishes Kazue Kato’s manga in English and sums up the story like so:

Blue Exorcist Plot

Raised by Father Fujimoto, a famous exorcist, Rin Okumura never knew his real father. One day a fateful argument with Father Fujimoto forces Rin to face a terrible truth—the blood of the demon lord Satan runs in Rin’s veins! Rin swears to defeat Satan, but doing that means entering the mysterious True Cross Academy and becoming an exorcist himself. Can Rin fight demons and keep his infernal bloodline a secret? It won’t be easy, especially when drawing his father’s sword releases the demonic power within him!
