The Bakugan franchise includes toys, anime, and games, and soon it’s also going to include a live-action feature Hollywood film. Spin Master Entertainment is collaborating with filmmaker Brad Peyton and Lindsay Harbert for the project.
Peyton has experience with both movies and TV shows. He was a director and producer for the movie Atlas, featuring Jennifer Lopez, and directed two Dwayne Johnson blockbusters, Rampage and San Andreas. The show Daybreak was co-created by him. He’ll direct, produce and write Bakugan.
IMDB lists Harbert as a writer, director and producer, including as a writer for Playing House.
“Bakugan is a global franchise with a multi-generational and devoted fanbase, built on the strength of its compelling characters and explosive battles. As fans who were part of its initial craze now enter adulthood, we are thrilled to be working with accomplished filmmaking talent like Brad to reimagine Bakugan in live action, expanding the franchise for fans while introducing it to new audiences around the world,” remarked Spin Master Entertainment president Jennifer Dodge.
Peyton also gave a public statement, commenting, “Bakugan is ready for the film treatment, and I’m thrilled to be the one to bring it to the big screen for the very first time. With Lindsay and the Spin Master team alongside me, we’re excited to build a hit franchise with global appeal. I am confident we will create a must-see film event that does justice to the unique and epic world that is Bakugan.”
Deadline, which exclusively broke the story, did not give a general timeline of when we might expect the movie, if a potential timeline even exists yet. It noted that Spin Master Entertainment, which co-produced about 300 episodes of Bakugan, has had great financial success in making movies based on the children’s PAW Patrol franchise, with a third movie scheduled to come out next year.
