The latest weekend box office report is in for Japan, and the Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK movie came out on top. The feature—which serves as a compilation of the two-part Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS anime special, opened in Japan on November 8 and pulled in 249 million yen (about US$1.63 million) on 175,000 admissions over the course of its first three days.
Other notable titles in the top 10 include the FUUTO PI anime film, which opened in 93 theaters (compared to Attack on Titan‘s 148 theaters) and ranked fifth. It also ranked first in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking, with 207 reviews netting an average rating of 4.20/5.0.
The live-action adaptation of No Longer Heroine author Momoko Koda’s Atashino! debuted in eighth place. Meanwhile, BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!! Utau, Bokura ni Nareru Uta & FILM LIVE failed to rank, while Given The Movie: Umi e finally fell off Kogyo Tsushinsha’s mini-theater ranking in its eighth weekend. It could be that the latter is no longer considered a small release, since more theaters were added due to its success.
Attack on Titan The Movie: THE LAST ATTACK is two hours and fifteen minutes in length and includes some new footage. As of now, there’s no word on if it might also find its way to American cinema. With more anime movies reaching the American big screen, it’s possible that this movie will someday be in the U.S. box office.
The original Attack on Titan manga is published in America by Kodansha USA Publishing, which gave this description for the plot:
