Assassination Classroom Reveals New Opening Song for Rebroadcast

The anime Assassination Classroom came out 10 years ago, so that means it’s time for anniversary celebrations. Three major things are supposed to happen for the decade commemoration, though so far two of those remain a mystery. The one thing we do know is that the series is getting a rebroadcast — and now we just learned details about it getting new music.

The opening and ending sequences are getting some new animation, and beginning on episode 12, the new theme song is titled “Look Back” and performed by Keina Suda (a.k.a. balloon). Suda is no stranger to theme song performances, having also performed for Fire Force, Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-, Skip and Loafer and more.

“Look Back” will officially release on July 16.

Assassination Classroom is a popular series as both a manga (by Yusei Matsui) and an anime. People keen on banning manga have especially gone after this title. For a few examples, one mom who said high schoolers’ brains couldn’t handle it succeeded in getting it banned in her child’s school district, the Rutherford County School board in Tennessee banned it (along with one of their own Advanced Placement English books), and it’s included in a list of books that offended the Coalition of Conservatives in Action.

Crunchyroll, which is streaming the anime, gave this description for its plot:

Assassination Classroom Plot

Forget about homework and pop quizzes. The students of Class 3E have a far more important assignment: kill their teacher before the end of the year! A tentacle-d sensei that moves at Mach 20 is out to conquer the classroom after destroying seventy percent of the moon. In addition to reading, writing, and arithmetic, the murderous monster behind the lectern will teach his students everything he knows about the assassination game. Should some eager beaver prove to be a quick study in killing, he or she will save Earth from extinction – and collect a hefty reward.
