As Oshi no Ko Ends, Writer Aka Akasaka Prepares to Launch New Manga

Aka Akasaka

This week saw the launch of 2024’s 50th issue of Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine, and with it came the promised end of writer Aka Akasaka and illustrator Mengo Yokoyari’s Oshi no Ko manga. Before the dust has even settled, Akasaka is already off and running to get another series off the ground in spring 2025.

The new series will also be serialized in Young Jump, and will have Aoi Kujira (Geek Circle Crisis) composing the story and Ajichika (Record of Ragnarok) illustrating. So far we just have the teaser image above and word that the manga will be a fairy tale story about a prince and princess following fate.

The record-breaking and sometimes controversial Oshi no Ko manga is about the darker side of the entertainment industry. Creator Aka Akasaka explained, “With the spread of the internet, we live in a society where fans’ voices are heard directly. I want people to know how young talents are being hurt, exploited, and suffering.”

In America, the original manga is published by Yen Press, which gave this description for the first volume:

Oshi no Ko Plot

Gorou is a gynecologist and idol fan who’s in shock after his favorite star, Ai, announces an impromptu hiatus. Little does Gorou realize that he’s about to forge a bond with her that defies all common sense! Lies are an idol’s greatest weapon in this outrageous manga from Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish).
