Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You

An anime adaptation has officially been revealed for age-gap romantic-comedy manga Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You. An official website and X (formerly Twitter) account are now live for the TV anime, which is based on the manga by Jinushi.

Details are light, but we know to expect the Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You anime sometime in 2026. Check out an announcement illustration while we wait for more info.

The series started as a webcomic on X back in March 2022, eventually making its way to the pages of Monthly Big Gangan magazine, also netting a win in the web category of the 2022 Next Manga Award. Square Enix publishes the series in English, describing the story like so:

Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You Plot

At age forty-five, office worker Sasaki has had enough of the corporate grind. His only solace is smoking-and the friendly smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. When Sasaki can’t find Yamada after a particularly trying day, a striking woman invites him to smoke with her. The despondent man thinks he’s made a new smoking buddy in the cool, teasing Tayama, but Sasaki doesn’t realize he already knows her!
