Bullet Train Explosion Film Coming from Shin Godzilla’s Shinji HiguchiShinji Higuchi, the co-director of Shin Godzilla and the director of Shin Ultraman, is helming Bullet Train Explosion, a remake of a 1975 Japanese classic, for Netflix.

The film is set for 2025.

The original 1975 film is about a bullet train that will explode if it drops below a 80 kilometers per hour. Starring Ken Takakura and Sonny Chiba, it’s sometimes cited as one of the inspirations for the 1994 hit Speed.

The new film will star Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, formerly of the pop group SMAP.

Director Higuchi has had a varied career in both anime and live-action, working on Gainax properties like Gunbuster and Evangelion, as well as live-action, effects-heavy epics like Attack on Titan and Sinking of Japan. His most recent film as director is 2022’s Shin Ultraman.
