In 2022, voice actress Amanda Winn Lee (known as Rei in Neon Genesis Evangelion) aided anime industry veteran Jan Scott-Frazier in getting a GoFundMe page to help pay her health bills. The campaign was a success, bringing in more than they had hoped for. Now Jan Scott-Frazier has started her own GoFundMe page, saying she is in desperate need.
According to Jan Scott-Frazier, her rent is $4000 and someone just stole some of her money. She wrote, “I live in assisted living, which is very expensive. I need round-the-clock nursing and staff support or else I could live somewhere else cheaper. Unfortunately, I am in such bad shape. I can’t even get out of the hospital right now. I’m trapped in here for a month. I don’t know when I’ll be getting out, but hopefully, it will be very soon. I think I will be sent to rehab next.”
She’s hoping to raise $6,000, which is less than the fundraiser in 2022. As of this writing, $2,575 has been raised.
Along with saying she’s on her “digital knees,” she also expressed her gratitude to anyone who helps. “Thank you very, very much for spending your time on this, and I look forward to any help you can possibly give me, even if it’s two dollars,” she wrote.
Scott-Frazier has worn many different hats in the anime world. She was the first non-Japanese person to work in anime production when she started at Artland in 1989. Six years later she rose to be the president of Production I.G. USA. She was an episode director for Susie-chan & Marvy, a technical director for titles like Grandstream Saga and Madou Monogatari, and she co-created GENESIS Digital Publishing Company beside Kimagure Orange Road mangaka Izumi Matsumoto. She is also behind the Voices For nonprofit.
If you want to help, the GoFundMe page is here.
