The original Steins;Gate visual novel game, which came out in 2009 and inspired the anime series of the same name, is getting a reboot. The new game, which is titled, appropriately, Steins;Gate Re:Boot, will be produced by Mages, the developer formerly known as 5pb.
The Steins;Gate reboot will follow the plot of the original but feature additional story elements and updated graphics. Like the original, character designs will be produced by huke.
The original game was followed by the 2011 anime series, a movie in 2013 and the series Steins;Gate 0 in 2018. Here’s how Steam describes the original game:
STEINS;GATE follows a rag-tag band of tech-savvy young students who discover the means of changing the past via mail, using a modified microwave. Their experiments into how far they can go with their discovery begin to spiral out of control as they become entangled in a conspiracy surrounding SERN, the organisation behind the Large Hadron Collider, and John Titor who claims to be from a dystopian future.
