A Couple of Cuckoos VA Toshiyuki Manabe Passes Away at 32

Toshiyuki Manabe

There is sad news with the report from Production Ace that voice actor Toshiyuki Manabe passed away earlier this month. Though he was only 32, his cause of death is listed as heart failure. His funeral has already happened, and it was for family only, as they preferred.

Manabe might not be as well known as some other voice talents who recently passed away, like Emi Shinohara of Sailor Moon or Rachael Lillis of Pokémon. Rather, Manabe has a résumé of taking on smaller roles in different anime series. For instance, he played Delinquent C and Tourist D in A Couple of Cuckoos; a Man in episode 3 of Date A Live IV; Man C and Zombie A in Hensuki; Home Delivery Man and Male student in My Girlfriend is Shobitch; and Adventurer in My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1. He also provided his voice talents for Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! While the actors of the main characters might be better-known, smaller characters need to have their voices, too, and he helped each anime come alive with his talents.

Besides anime, Manabe was in the games Just Cause 3 and Star Wars: Battlefront II, worked on the audiobook Marvel’s Wastelanders, and contributed to Doctor Who’s Japanese dub.

Anime News Network reports that he was born on December 24, 1991.

We share our condolences with Manabe’s family and friends.

Kodansha USA Publishing releases the A Couple of Cuckoos manga by Miki Yoshikawa and gave this description for its plot:

A Couple of Cuckoos Plot

16-year-old super-studier Nagi Umino, second-year student at the Megurogawa Academy high school, was switched at birth. On his way to a dinner to meet his birth parents, he accidentally meets the brash, outspoken, Erika Amano, who is determined to make Nagi her fake boyfriend as she never wants to actually marry.
