Finally planning that dream Japan vacation?
Since the Japanese government lifted its three-year-long coronavirus border restrictions, as of April, 29 2023, tourists are able to travel to the country without proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
The wait is now over and Japan enthusiasts can take part in the many exciting events and festivals; not to mention shopping in anime megastores. This summer is no exception! Cities all over the country are hosting anime super events that are not to be overlooked.
If you have free time in your schedule, check out these popular anime events during your Japan adventures.
Ikimashou (let’s go!)
Comiket
If you’re an indie manga fan, this is the must-see event while in Tokyo this summer. Comic Market, commonly referred to as “Comiket”, is a semiannual doujinshi convention where independent mangaka set up shop to sell their works. This event is unlike many conventions, where the actual market is “not-for-profit”; the event is run by a volunteer committee.
Starting as a small grassroots con on December, 21, 1975 with just 700 attendees, Comiket grew to be the largest fan convention in the world.
You finally have the opportunity to meet your favorite creators and buy that manga volume that you can’t find in big-box manga shops. The event is also a hotspot for cosplayers; this year cosplayers may take photos across the entire venue.
For just ¥1000, about $7.20 at the time of writing this, you’ll have a jam-packed manga-hunting day ahead of you.

Pikachu Tairyou (parade) is an all-day, family-friendly event taking place within the Minato Mirai district.
If that wasn’t enough to visit Japan’s 2nd largest city, the newly announced Pokémon Center Worlds Store 2023 will open at the “Pokémon World Championships 2023” August 11th – 13th at Pacifico Yokohama. Just make sure to visit the official website for announcements to learn more about the lottery ticket process.
