The nominees for Kodansha’s 47th annual Manga Awards have been revealed! There are fifteen different titles competing, with three different categories. Let’s take a look at what’s in the running.
For the category of Best Shojo Manga, the nominees are My Girlfriend’s Child by Mamoru Aoi; In the Clear Moonlit Dusk by Mika Yamamori; Tamon’s B-Side by Yuki Shiwasu; and A Sign of Affection by Suu Morishita.
For the category of Best Shonen Manga, the nominees are Akane-banashi by Yūki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue; Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku by Saka Mikami; Gachiakuta by Kei Urana; Shangri-La Frontier by Ryōsuke Fuji and Katarina, and Megumi no Daigo: Kyūkoku no Orange by Kuro Tomiyama and Masahito Soda.
For the final category, Best General Manga, the nominees are Onna no Sono no Hoshi by Yama Wayama; Skip and Loafer by Misaki Takamatsu; The Darwin Incident by Shun Umezawa; Manshū Ahen Squad by Tsukasa Monma and Shikako; Medalist by Tsurumaikada; and Liaison: Kodomo no Kokoro Shinryōsho by Yonchan and Yūsaku Takemura.
Shangri-La Frontier, Skip and Loafer and A Sign of Affection were also some of the nominees last year, but they did not take home the award.
There was previously a category called “Best Children’s Manga,” though that was retired after 2014. After this, titles that would have gone there were swallowed up by the shonen or shojo categories.
Looking back to 2022, the Best Shojo Manga award went to Nina the Starry Bride by Rikachi; the Best Shonen Manga award went to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime by Taiki Kawakami; and the Best General Manga award went to Police in a Pod by Miko Yasu.
2023’s winners will be revealed on May 10.
