The Rose of Versailles Episodes manga by Riyoko Ikeda has had its English publication postponed. Though it was originally supposed to come out this year, Chief of Udon Entertainment Erik Ko explained that its release schedule has changed because of “supply chain issues of the whole printing and publishing industry.” The Rose of Versailles Episodes, which will consist of two omnibus manga, will now come out in 2023.
The publisher gave this description of the manga:
“More than 25 years after she finished the original series, Riyoko Ikeda-sensei started a new serialization in 2013 with stories focusing on various side characters that are happening in a parallel timeline as the original comics. This gives the readers a much more in-depth look at characters like Andre, Alan, Gerodelle, and Rosalie.”
Udon Entertainment has published the original Rose of Versailles manga in five omnibus volumes. The Rose of Versailles debuted in 1972, and became one of the most successful shojo manga of all time. Decades later, in 2013, Ikeda began working on the Rose of Versailles Episodes manga.
Udon Entertainment gave this description for the first volume of The Rose of Versailles:
“Oscar François de Jarjeyes is a young noblewoman raised as a son by her father. As commander of Marie Antoinette’s palace guard, Oscar is brought face-to-face with the luxury of King Louis XVI’s court at Versailles. Joined by her servant André, Oscar is privy to the intrigue and deceit of France’s last great royal regime.
The Rose of Versailles, the queen of shojo manga, is available for the first time in English! This deluxe hardcover volume contains the first 22 chapters of Riyoko Ikeda’s historical fiction masterwork.”
The Rose of Versailles has received multiple adaptations, including a TV anime series, an animated movie, and a live-action movie created between France and Japan.
