Parrot Analytics has been crunching numbers, and they’ve announced that Attack on Titan is the most in-demand TV show of 2021 for their Global TV Demand Awards.
“Attack on Titan is the first ever non-English language series to earn the title of World’s Most In-Demand TV Show, previously held by only The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones,” the company explained in a press release. “Attack on Titan’s ascent comes on the heels of an explosive international growth period for the anime genre. Over the last two years, global demand for anime grew an astounding 118%, and the genre’s global demand share increased from 4.2% to 7.1%. Anime was the third most in-demand global subgenre in 2021, behind only crime dramas and sitcoms.”
Not surprisingly, Attack on Titan also won the Most In-Demand Anime Series of 2021 category.
Julia Alexander, the Senior Strategy Analyst at Parrot Analytics, remarked, “This year’s Global TV Demand Award winners reaffirm that accessibility is key to audiences around the world finding their next favorite show. High caliber anime series out of Japan, like Attack on Titan, are more easily available now than ever before, streamlining the process of discovery, consumption, and conversation.”
Parrot Analytics also explained how it got these results by implementing a “global audience demand measurement system, a proprietary and new way to measure how much a TV series or talent resonates with people in 100+ markets around the world, across all platforms. The company captures over 1 billion new data points each day across the consumer activity spectrum, including video consumption (streaming/downloads), social media engagement (hashtags, liking, sharing) and research actions (reading about shows, writing about shows, etc).”
The anime Dragon Ball Z also showed up on the list, under the category of “Most In-Demand Legacy Series of 2021.”
