Godzilla vs. Kong, the American film that’s inspired in part by a Japanese franchise, finally opened in Japan this past weekend. It has already run in American theaters and been streaming on HBO Max.
Japanese theatergoers bought 390,000 tickets during the film’s first three days, putting it in the number one spot of the country’s box office. It brought in 600 million yen during that time period, which is around $5.4 million. In America, the film has brought in more than $100 million.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed By Light anime movie also debuted this past weekend, and it came in at third place. 98,000 tickets were bought for it from Friday-Sunday, and it made 122 million yen (about $1.10 million).
