eBay has announced a new “Adult items policy” that will go into effect on July 15. Multiple items that have been legal to sell and purchase on eBay will be banned, and eBay specifically calls out “sexually explicit anime, comics, books, animation, manga, hentai, yaoi” as being part of that ban. (Apparently yuri isn’t banned or they don’t know what that is.)
On the next line, it again bans adult anime and manga, writing that the ban also includes, “Adult magazines, nudist publications, or adult anime/manga that include sexually-explicit content, or nudity.”
However, eBay then goes on to allow multiple American adult magazines to avoid the ban: “The following are examples of magazines and books that generally do not contain sexually explicit content and can be listed in the Magazines category as long as the listing does not show nude images: Playboy, Playgirl, Playguy, Mayfair, On Our Backs, Butt (magazine), Blue (magazine) Gayletter, Fantastic Men, or Penthouse.”
eBay explained their reasoning for their new policy by saying, “We want to make adult items available to those who wish to purchase them and can do so legally, while preventing those who do not wish to view or purchase these items from easily accessing them.”
