Originally revealed in 2019, the Sakugan TV anime is the latest work under the banner of Project ANIMA, a joint initiative that DeNA, Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, Sotsu, and MBS launched in 2017. Anime studio Satelight is handling production for the project, and a new key visual (above) is here along with the launch of the official website.
Some of the key staff members involved with Sakugan include director and series composition writer Junichi Wada; script writers Shingo Nagai, Mariko Mochizuki, and Toshizo Nemoto; monster designer Shoji Kawamori; character designer Yuji Iwahara; and more.
Here’s the official description:
One day in the distant future. Humans live shoulder to shoulder in “colonies” separated by rock. Outside the colonies, a dangerous undeveloped area called “the Labyrinth” is expanding. Those who risk their lives to develop “the Labyrinth”, who mark out the undeveloped areas, are known as “Markers”. A young girl, Memempu, who wants to be a Marker one day, and a man, Gagumber, who used to be one. This mismatched father and daughter now take on the Labyrinth! “If there’s no path, dig one!”
