Just when you thought you were safe from live-action Akira movie news, producer Leonardo DiCaprio steps back into the spotlight. The latest update on the Warner Bros. production comes from the California Film Commission, which announced Akira as one of 18 tax credit allocations for filming in the state.
As part of California’s Film & TV Tax Credit Program 2.0, Akira pulled away with the largest allocation, netting the production a hefty $18.5 million tax credit. The adaptation will generate an estimated $92 million in qualified spending—$43 million of which will go to wages for 200 below-the-line crew members and over 5,000 extras and stand-ins—during the shoot, which is planned for 71 filming days.
