In a surprising turn of events, the new Natsume Yujin-cho (Natsume’s Book of Friends) anime film came out in the number 1 spot in this past weekend’s box office in Japan. Natsume Yujin-cho the Movie: Ephemeral Bond opened to the tune of ¥172,144,780, making it the first anime film to hit the top spot since Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer‘s April debut.
Ephemeral Bond brought in 117,473 admissions throughout its relatively modest release in 136 theaters. The official Twitter account followed up to confirm that the film dominated in regards to ticket sales, grossing, and satisfaction rankings throughout the weekend.
