Ghibli Co-Production The Red Turtle Gets Oscar Nomination

Despite there being some big anime film contenders released in English, including the likes of your name. and Miss Hokusai, none of them made the cut for the short list of Oscar nominations. The closest one on the list is director Michael Dudok de Wit’s The Red Turtle, which was a co-production between Wild Bunch and Studio Ghibli.

The Red Turtle will compete in the 89th Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature Film against the likes of Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, My Life as a Zucchini, and Zootopia.
