The Japanese government is taking up a bill that would make it easier for non-citizens to work in the animation industry, reports Nikkei Asian Review.
For those dreaming of becoming an animator in Japan, this is potentially huge news.
The bill, which will be taken up Wednesday, would ease current visa restrictions on those working in industries like animation and fashion. As it stands, says the Review, there have been cases of non-Japanese citizens who were offered work at animation studios but couldn’t get a visa allowing them to do so.
This is all part of the recent “Cool Japan” push, which sees the government becoming more directly involved in the country’s “soft power” exports, including, you guessed it, animation.
