Residents of the Tokyo Metropolitan District can wander over to fashion capital Shibuya this week to check out a pretty cool exhibition dedicated to classic 80s and anime and manga.
The event, entitled Mune Kyun Exhibit 2, is a sequel of sorts to the first event, which took place in 2011. It brings together eight Tokyo-based artists, who have all brought their own sensibilities to the task of representing what many consider the golden years of anime.
It’s interesting to note that many of the artists who contributed works were born in the 80s or 90s, too young to have seen and read the anime and manga they’re paying tribute to in real time. Instead, they were introduced with a kind of time lag, something fans in the States can certainly appreciate.
For those in Tokyo, the exhibition runs until April 7th. For those not, you’re in luck: the artists all have an online presence. Because while they’re celebrating the 80s, they’re not stuck in them.
