Though we may seem a bit out of the loop in the US when it comes to anything Pokémon that isn’t a game, Japan hasn’t had a problem attending each and every feature film that graces their theaters. Most recently (on July 19th) the 11th (!!)franchise movie debuted: Giratina and the Sky’s Bouquet, and has since earned $32 million in the box office.
This may seem like beans in the wake of domestic movie monstrosities like The Dark Knight, but Giratina‘s healthy debut has spiked the grand cumulative total of Pokémovie money up to $455 million. That’s enough scratch to put it on the top as the highest grossing animated franchise in Japanese history. I guess it’s not really that hard when you’re busting out sheer quantity, but it’s impressive nonetheless. From here on out, I’ll be most interested to see just how many more movies they can make about everyone’s favorite Pocket Monsters.
