The first of two Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction anime films opens in Japan this Friday, but we’ll have to wait just a bit longer for the followup. The second film was originally set to open on April 19, but a delay has now moved that premiere date a little over a month back to May 24.
According to the announcement on the official website, the delay was put in place to improve the quality of the film.
While we wait, you can see a new visual for part 2 below.
The first film hits Japanese theaters on March 22. Both features are produced by Production +h (The Orbital Children) and directed by Tomoyuki Kurokawa (Break of Dawn).
Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction ran from 2014 to 2022. Here’s how Viz Media describes it:
It’s just an everyday apocalypse.
Three years ago the aliens invaded Tokyo. Nothing was ever the same again.
But after a while, even impending doom starts to feel ordinary.
The Japanese Self Defense Forces are still looking for a way to combat the looming alien threat three years after the invasion, but so far conventional weapons have had no effect on the mothership. Maybe it’s time to try something unconventional. Meanwhile, Kadode Koyama is in high school. She and her best friend avidly track the aliens’ movements on social media and less enthusiastically study for college entrance exams. When the end of the world is overhead, you learn to take things one step at a time.
