These magical winter anime carry on where season 1 left off!

2025’s winter anime season is just a month away… are you caught up? There are lots of new series and adaptations incoming, but also some magical returning titles! Lovers of magical fantasy action will want to ensure they’re all caught up before January comes.

Otherworldly fighters, immortal sorceresses, and witchy magical girls are all coming back as the new year begins. We’ll give you the low-down on what’s coming and how to start catching up!

Witchy Precure!

Witchy Precure!

The winter anime season is when we meet the year’s new Precure team, but fans of the long-running series are in for another treat. After nine years, Witchy Precure! is back for a sequel series. This makes the witch-themed magical girl team one of only a few Precure seasons to get a televised continuation.

Titled Witchy Precure! ~MIRAI DAYS~, the 12-episode series will follow the duo as adults, facing down a new threat to their realm. Not familiar with this team? No problem! Crunchyroll is streaming Witchy Precure! so you can meet the girls before their new season starts.

Ishura

Need some fantasy combat in your winter anime watchlist? Get caught up to Ishura! Season 1 premiered in January of this year, and will be back with season 2 exactly a year later. So now is a great time to watch the first 12 episodes. That way, you’ll be well versed in the show’s ever-growing cast before Season 2 premieres.

Ishura takes place in the wake of the death of its world’s demon king. So what’s a hero to do when the evil is defeated? Figure out which of them is strongest, of course! Check out season 1, now streaming on Hulu, and get to know the Shuras so far before more join the brawl!

Unnamed Memory

Unnamed Memory

If you’re still going through Frieren withdrawal, never fear: Unnamed Memory is a great stopgap! Act 2 will be part of the upcoming winter anime season, continuing the story of a cursed royal and the witch who may or may not love him. Much like Frieren, it has a lot to say about what outliving your loved ones can do to a person. Also much like Frieren, it stars Atsumi Tanezaki as the central long-lived magic user.

Based on the light novel of the same name, Unnamed Memory focuses on the plight of Oscar, whose curse will kill any woman who bears his child. Tinasha, the long-lived Witch of the Azure Moon, posits that finding a woman magically strong enough to withstand the curse could be an alternative to breaking it. And she just so happens to fit the bill. Will she find an alternative (or another candidate) before she and Oscar completely fall for each other? Catch up to season 1 on Crunchyroll, then tune in next season to find out!
