Male idol group Ae! Group member Masaya Sano is in the lead as protagonist Giuseppe, alongside Moka Kamishiraishi (Kun Ota in Mamoru Hosoda’s Mirai) as lead heroine Pechka. You can here them for the first time in the video below, and look for this one to premiere in Japan on November 7.

Wataru Takahashi, who has helmed a handful of Crayon Shin-chan films, directs Toritsukareotoko, based on a screenplay by Naoyuki Miura. Masatsugu Arakawa provides character designs for the Shin-Ei Animation production.

The novel follows a man named Giuseppe who earns the moniker “Toritsukareotoko” since he often gets obsessed with things. As a result, after falling in love at first sight with a balloon seller named Pechka, he wants nothing but to get closer to her. She has a sadness in her heart, though, prompting Giuseppe and his mouse friend Cielo to solve her worries using the specialties he’s developed through his various obsessions over the years.

Shinji Ishii’s novel was first published through Billiken Shuppan in 2001, followed by a bunko edition published by Shinchosha in 2006.
