The thing about Toshinari Seki is, well, he really is the master of killing time. It may appear as if he’s playing chess for instance, until you look closer and discover it’s really a life or death feudal struggle! The level of care he puts into his desktop activities is beyond obsessive, and it’s hard not to stare when the results are so over-the-top ridiculous.
Unfortunately, this ends up getting Yokoi in trouble way more than Seki. While Seki may be avoiding classwork in his own unique fashion, Yokoi is typically the one who gets called out for not paying attention. When attempting to sabotage these projects almost always backfires, will Yokoi even be able to make it through the school year with her sanity intact?
Based on the ongoing manga by Takuma Morishige, Tonari no Seki-kun made the leap to anime in 2014. Yuji Motoh (Corrector Yui, Haunted Junction) directs, with Masae Ōtake (Mysterious Joker) adapting Morishige’s original character designs for the Shin-Ei Animation production.
