It’s always nice to know someone’s got your back. And fortunately for the cast of this season’s new shows, there are lots of anime girls who want nothing more to keep people safe. Whether protecting their associates from bullying, medical malpractice, or literal monsters, these ladies are on point. They just… may not go about it in the way you’d normally expect.
Let’s get to know these lovely ladies, as well as their unconventional approaches to doing the right thing. And make sure to keep an eye on Otaku USA for all the latest news on the current anime season!
Takao Ameku
Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective is a series tailor-made for fans of House. The series presents new bizarre medical mysteries every week, along with an unconventional doctor who’s ready to solve them. But instead of Hugh Laurie with a limp and a Vicodin addiction, it’s Takao Ameku: a young-faced genius physician. She’s one of the smartest anime girls of the season. But, much like other genius doctors (and geniuses in general), she’s a bit weird.
Dr. Takao (the hospital is full of other Dr. Amekus) is actually pretty nice as long as you go along with her. Haven’t seen Jurassic Park? She’ll make sure you get educated. But misdiagnose a patient, and she’ll have no trouble insulting a colleague on main. Most importantly, she’s more than willing to entertain improbable answers to medical mysteries. In fact, she’ll become laser-focused ’til she’s done. Which… can be annoying if you work for her.

Shizuri Ideura
Imagine a world where anime girls appear out of nowhere to protect you from monsters. Sounds cool, right? That’s the reality for Tsukasa Atsumi, a seemingly normal salaryman. Shizuri, an honest-to-goodness kunoichi, leaps into his life to protect him from the monsters out to get him. And a live-in ninja would be great… except, as the title suggests, he’s now living with an otaku NEET kunoichi.
When Shizuri is off the job, she goes full gremlin mode: no income, no energy, and often no sleep. Just games and snacks. While Atsumi is understandably frustrated, he’s also quickly growing fond of his nerdy protector. Now, if only her presence didn’t attract more weird kunoichi to his doorstep…

Grace Auvergne
The ringleted rich rival is a classic trope among anime girls, going all the way back to the Showa Era. Grace Auvergne is the latest in this line: a wealthy villainess in a romantasy dating sim. But the people around her have noticed a change since she hit her head. That’s because “Grace” is actually Kenzaburo Tondabayashi, a 52-year-old government employee who’s been reincarnated into his daughter’s favorite dating sim. Now, Grace has gone from rich bully to literal girl-dad.
Using a combo of nerd knowledge and her “Elegance Cheat” (which turns all his real-world politeness into upper-class flair), Grace tries to be the best villainess she can be. But it’s just not in Kenzaburo’s nature to be mean: not when Anna Doll, the game’s heroine, so clearly needs a guiding hand as she navigates school life. Even if she’s not nailing actual villainy, we completely support Grace’s new parental attitude.
From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated! is streaming on HIDIVE.
