Manga author Kayaharuka—who is known for creating The Misfit of Demon King Academy manga adaptation—sadly passed away on July 6 according to Square Enix. The publisher didn’t note the cause of death in the announcement, but Kayaharuka had been suffering from pancreatic cancer for the past few years.
Kayaharuka was still working on the adaptation of Shu’s The Misfit of Demon King Academy light novel series, but the manga was canceled just last week so they could undergo treatment. By the time that announcement was made on July 7, however, the author had passed.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy manga launched in 2018, and five volumes have been published so far. Kayaharuka released a statement along with the news of the manga’s cancellation, saying that while they regret the way the manga had to end, they will treasure the time they spent working on the adaptation.
Kayaharuka’s family has already held a funeral.
