The lid is off for the main course, because an anime adaptation has been announced for Tokuya Higashigawa’s The Dinner Table Detective novels, known in Japan as Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de. The series is currently set to premiere on TV in Japan sometime in 2025.
Shogakukan opened an official website to get the ball rolling on the new production’s public-facing portal.
Originally debuting in 2007, The Dinner Table Detective has so far inspired a stage play, live-action series, live-action specials and even a 2013 live-action film. The novels feature illustrations by Yusuke Nakamura, and manga author Oreko Tachibana is handling designs for original characters in the anime.
The story follows Reiko Hosho, daughter of the world-famous Hosho Group’s owner, as she becomes a rookie detective. She ends up working together with her boss—Kazamatsuri, son of the Kazamatsuri Motors owner—to solve tough cases. Reiko frequently consults with her butler and driver Kageyama to help solve these cases, and despite his harsh language and insults directed at Reiko, she always manages to sleuth them out.
Stay tuned for more on this one as further details are announced.
