This year has been a good one for indie games. From climbing adventures to managing a night-time market, we’ve been treated to a plethora of fun titles. For those of us always on the hunt for the next best cozy games, we made a list boiling down the best of the best in cozy adventure games from across the internet.
It wasn’t easy to narrow it down, but these two indies are strong contenders for being some of the most popular games of 2024.
Little Kitty, Big City
Lost in the big city as a little kitty can be tough, but it’s always an adventure. Little Kitty, Big City by Double Dagger Studio checks every box for my dream cozy indie game.
- Laid-back gameplay with no real sense of urgency? Check.
- The ability to cause NPCs some chaos and be cute while doing it? Check.
- Japan-inspired visuals? Check
- Play as a cat? Check.
Do I have high standards? Yes, but when it comes to spending time with a new cozy game, it needs to actually fulfill the cozy aspect I want. It’s easy to see Little Kitty, Big City being a favorite among the cozy games community and beyond.
If you’re completely enamored by cat antics, this little kitty can do a “biiiiig” stretch, make muffins, take a little lie down, and do everything your sweet feline friend can, too. And if you’re also in the boat of hats making every game better then you’re in for a treat.
Third-person cat adventure games are not new; Stray even went on to win two awards in the Indie category in 2022. Little Kitty, Big City also has big potential thanks to being hyper-niche; appealing to those who love the idea of roaming Tokyo’s backstreets (hi, it’s me) and/or are obsessed with cats (also me), but will easily become a favorite to those looking for a cheeky simulation title.
Coming to Switch and Steam in 2024. Follow Little Kitty, Big City for updates.
Flock
Birds of a feather flock together. And this Flock is downright dreamy.
Hollow Ponds, also behind I AM DEAD, expertly crafts charming games meant to foster cozy couch game time. Flock, their newest game releasing this upcoming year, immediately draws you in with its colorful, open world and similarities to Pokémon (without the battles).
Take to the skies with the help of a bird pal who will have you soaring at new heights in search of new floaty creatures. Raise floating sheep, then explore the terrain to discover new members to add to your growing flock. The best part? Flock will support online co-op play. So you and your friends can adventure and charm new flyers to grow your flock.
From sunrise to sunset, you can zip across the terrain and discover the world’s little mysteries. Bring your friends and indulge in a beautifully cozy game. This wholesome game is at the top of my list for co-op games in 2024.
Follow Flock for updates.
Honorable mention: Duck Detective: The Secret Salami (The title speaks for itself.)
