Last month we covered some cast additions for The Banished Former Hero Live as He Pleases, and now the anime based on Shin Kouduki’s light novel series has a new preview. You can see a fresh trailer below, complete with a sample of Aimi’s ending theme song, “Meritocracy,” ahead of the anime’s April 1 Japanese premiere.

The anime is being directed by Kazuomi Koga, with Studio Deen and Marvy Jack teaming up on animation production. Cast members include Minami Kurisaka as Reese, Akari Kito as Henriette and Sora Amamiya as Noel. The opening theme song will be “EVOLVE,” as performed by Shouta Aoi, who also plays the lead character Allen.

J-Novel Club publishes the novels in English and sums up the story like so:

Deemed a “good-for-nothing” for his low level and lack of a god-given Gift, Allen is stripped of his noble status and banished from the Duchy of Westfeldt. But Allen has a secret: he was a great hero in a previous life, and he’s thrilled for the chance to finally live the way he pleases! His drama-free existence, however, is soon interrupted by a desperate encounter with his ex-fiancée. As a former hero who still possesses the incredible powers from his past life, Allen can’t ignore someone in need—no matter how much he might like to! And so begins the new heroic saga our former hero never wanted!
