The second of two Sword Art Online -Progressive- anime films was supposed to open on September 10, but those plans have hit a snag. According to an announcement on the official website, the Scherzo of the Deep Night movie has been delayed due to “the nationwide spread of the COVID-19 infection.”
There’s no new release date at the moment, but once it has been decided the official channels will make an announcement. Here’s the full statement from the producers (translation via Crunchyroll News):
“Due to production delays caused by the nationwide spread of the COVID-19 infection, we have been forced to postpone the release of ‘Sword Art Online -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night,’ which was scheduled to be released on September 10, 2022 (Saturday). For those of you who are looking forward to the release of the film, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Our staff has been working hard to prepare for the release of the film, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to those who have been looking forward to its release.”
The film’s soundtrack release has also been delayed, and as expected, the August 24 “completion” screening event has been canceled and refunds are available to those who purchased.
