Scott Pilgrim Anime in the Works at Science SARU with Original Creator

Big news arrived this week for the Scott Pilgrim comic series, which was previously adapted into a feature film directed by Edgar Wright and then a beat ’em up video game published by Ubisoft. The game itself recently resurfaced after long being unavailable, and the next move for the series is a Netflix anime adaptation from none other than Science SARU (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!).

Studio head Eunyoung Choi will serve as one of the producers, and original Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley is on board to write and executive produce. Right now the series is just in the early stages of development at Netflix and Universal Studios’s UCP TV production division, so we’ll have to wait for more details on whether or not it gets the full greenlight.

The original Scott Pilgrim graphic novels were published by Oni Press from 2004 to 2010, and have since been re-released in full color. Here’s how they describe the first volume:

Scott Pilgrim’s life is totally sweet. He’s 23 years old, in a rock band, “between jobs,” AND dating a cute high school girl. Everything’s fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. Will Scott’s awesome life get turned upside-down? Will he have to face Ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends in battle? Short answer: yes. Long answer: Scott Pilgrim, Volume 1.
