Sailor Zombie Anime in the Works

After starting as a 12-episode TV drama featuring the girls of super idol group AKB48 back in 2014, Sailor Zombie went on to be adapted into a manga. Now, that work—which is based on the show written by Isshin Inudo and features the art of Jiji & Pinch—is about to become an anime.

The news was revealed in new editions of the Sailor Zombie manga that launched in Japan this week. Other than the fact that the anime is in production, however, we don’t really know anything else about it. We’ll have to stay tuned for further announcements.

The Sailor Zombie manga originally ran in the pages of Monthly Heroes magazine from May 2014 to February 2016, branching out from the path the TV drama had paved to tell its own unique story. Here’s how Monthly Heroes describes it:

Sailor Zombie Plot

Two months have passed since zombies gained control of the world.

High school student Maiko is wandering around by herself with no destination when she runs to a school where the survivors live together.

She is helped by Mutsumi and Yuri, strong-willed girls the same age as Maiko. She thinks she’s finally found a safe place to live, but what happens next?

In a world ruled by zombies, the girls who have survived will begin fighting!
