Poupelle of Chimney Town, the 2020 film from Studio 4°C, has a sequel on the way. Today we got our first look at that sequel thanks to a new promo video and illustration.
The film is subtitled Yakusoku no Tokeidai (The Promised Clocktower), and it’s set to hit screens in Japan in spring 2026.
The film is based on the picture book of the same name by Akihiro Nishino, the creator of the Poupelle of Chimney Town series. Today’s illustration is also by Nishino.
Nishino is handling the screenplay and supervising production. Returning as director from the first film is Yusuke Hirota at Studio 4°C.
Here’s how Eleven Arts described the original Poupelle film:
Poupelle of Chimney Town is the story of young Lubicchi living among the thick smoke from the chimneys of his isolated town, yearning to see the “stars” —to know the truth —his father always told him about. One Halloween night he meets Poupelle, a man made of garbage, and together they look to the sky as their adventure begins. Spectacularly beautiful, filled with inspiring performances and splendid music and sound effects, and produced at Tokyo’s famed Studio 4ºC, Poupelle of Chimney Town brings laughter, tears and joy.
Studio 4°C is on a roll with announcements of new anime, including the feature film ChaO and the anime adaptation of All You Need is Kill.
