After being announced back in June, we’ve gotten a few updates for the anime adaptation of writer Saka and illustrator Chorefuji’s Once Upon a Witch’s Death light novels. In addition to revealing a new “situation visual,” the latest bit of new includes a new cast member.

Rumi Okubo (Cleao Everlasting in Sorcerous Stabber Orphen) is joining the anime’s cast as Fine Cavendish. You can see her character design below.

Here’s that situation visual:

The Once Upon a Witch’s Death anime is currently penciled in for a 2025 premiere. Yoshino Aoyama leads the cast as Meg Raspberry alongside Yoshiko Sakakibara as Faust, Miharu Hanai as Carbuncle and Aina Suzuki as Shirofukuro.

Atsushi Nigorikawa is directing the anime, with Keiichirou Ohchi on series composition and Yukishizuku on character designs for the EMT Squared production.

Yen Press publishes the Once Upon a Witch’s Death light novels in English and describes the story:

Once Upon a Witch’s Death Plot

On Meg’s seventeenth birthday, she learns that she only has one year left to live. Her mentor—the Eternal Witch, Faust—explains that she is cursed and the only way to save herself is to grow a seed of life using one thousand tears of joy. Of course, such tears aren’t easy to come by. As Meg begins her quest, she finds herself drawn into the lives of her friends and neighbors in ways she never imagined. By sharing their burdens and using her magic to comfort them, she learns how precious those moments of connection can be even in the face of death.
