Once Upon a Witch’s Death Anime Drops New Key Art, Cast Details

Once Upon a Witch’s Death Anime Drops New Key Art, Cast DetailsAs we learned back in June, writer Saka and illustrator Torefuji’s Once Upon a Witch’s Death light novels are getting an anime adaptation in 2025. Today we’ve got a fresh look at that adaptation thanks to a new piece of key art.

We’ve also got some casting details: Carbuncle will be played by Miharu Hanai, and Snowy Owl will be played by Aina Suzuki. Both characters are familiars of Meg Raspberry, the protagonist played by Yoshino Aoyama. The other cast member announced so far is Yoshiko Sakakibara as Faust.

Atsushi Nigorikawa is directing the anime, with Keiichirou Ohchi on series composition and Yukishizuku on character designs for the EMT Squared production.

Yen Press publishes the Once Upon a Witch’s Death light novels in English and describes the story:

On Meg’s seventeenth birthday, she learns that she only has one year left to live. Her mentor—the Eternal Witch, Faust—explains that she is cursed and the only way to save herself is to grow a seed of life using one thousand tears of joy. Of course, such tears aren’t easy to come by. As Meg begins her quest, she finds herself drawn into the lives of her friends and neighbors in ways she never imagined. By sharing their burdens and using her magic to comfort them, she learns how precious those moments of connection can be even in the face of death.
